Four-part video plenary offers look at future techniques

For the 23rd year, ASGE will highlight the most innovative endoscopic techniques and unusual cases from around the world during the annual ASGE Video Plenary. The plenary features the largest collection of high-quality, cutting-edge, fully edited endoscopic video footage presented at DDW®, according to Anne Marie Lennon, MD, PhD, FASGE, a member of the ASGE planning committee.

“This session will allow gastroenterologists to view the latest and most exciting endoscopy methods being done,” said Dr. Lennon, clinical director of gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins Medicine, Baltimore, MD. “The things shown during this plenary session are often what we see moving into routine clinical practice in the next few years. It’s an enormous amount of fun.”

This year’s plenary is divided into four sessions Tuesday morning. Each session will feature a series of peer-reviewed videos, and each presentation will include a video considered to be the best in its class by the planning committee. After the presentations are complete, several videos will be selected to receive “Best of the Best” awards and the highest-scoring video will be honored. ASGE and AGA are co-sponsoring the award for best video submitted to DDW.

The session is designed to be interesting and fun, with a format styled after an awards show.

“There are even envelopes opened after each session to announce the winner in a particular topic area,” noted Gerard Isenberg, MD, FASGE, chair of the ASGE Education Committee and a gastroenterologist at University Hospitals, Cleveland, OH.

After the live presentations, all Video Plenary selections, including the honorable mentions, will be available for online viewing at www.learn.asge.org through ASGE’s new online learning platform, GI Leap.
