Rectal cancer requires a multidisciplinary care team because it is such a complex disease, according to Evie H. Carchman, MD, assistant professor in the division of colorectal surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison, and a member of the SSAT Research Committee.

In this DDW Daily News video exclusive, Dr. Carchman discusses variables affecting patient care, several ongoing treatment debates and future treatment directions for rectal cancer.

“I’m excited about the research that’s ongoing in terms of improving our patient outcomes and also decreasing complications for this patient population,” Dr. Carchman says.
